Draw it

Learner: Rahi Singh     Learning Coach:  J Taylor        Date: 21/9/15
Learning Area: Draw it
Learning Observed
Rahi chose ‘Draw it’ for her iExperience in Wk 3 - 6 Term 3. He was to show his design firstly by carefully sketching the animal he chose in detail on paper along with information about this animal. He used the internet to find the information and a picture to help him draw his animal which were 2 different animals in one. He was then to do a final drawing (see below) of the animals he chose. He has used great detail and also some of the 2 animals habitat to complete his drawing. Rahi finished his task on time and was able to explain to others about the 2 animals and their habitats.
Evidence of learning
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Rahi showed he had the curiosity to find an animal that suited him. He collaborated well with the other students in sharing and helping.
Rahi was able to connect to his prior knowledge and experiences in discovering about the 2 animals. They were animals that interest him.
Next Learning Steps
  • Gain confidence in drawing a little more detail
  • Using the internet to your full advantage
  • Don’t be afraid to try new things and colours

Rahi, Ved & Ohm's 3D Printing Learning Story

Learners: Rahi, Ved & Ohm     Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 21.9.15
Learning Area: Technology - 3D Printing
Learning Observed
Rahi, Ved and Ohm chose to participate in 3D Printing during iExperience during Week 7-10 this term. We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose?
The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Rahi, Ved and Ohm decided on a upgrade to the wheelie chairs we have in our habitat.
Rahi, Ved and Ohm had to use the website TinkerCad to design their new and improved chair. They had to use the pre-existing shapes to form their 3D model which was then printed out by our LH1 3D printer.
After analysing their printed model, the boys were able to write a description about who would use it, why they designed it and what its features were. They also spent some time reflecting on improvements and redesigning it on TinkerCad to show these changes.
Evidence of learning

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Rahi, Ved and Ohm were collaborative during this process by sharing ideas and coming up with other ways to show creativity (Thinking, Participating & Contributing). They demonstrated curiosity by engaging with the entire technology process of designing, making, redesigning and evaluating. Rahi, Ohm and Ved were connected as they were able to show their learning in three different mediums (paper, digital and printed model).
Next Learning Steps
  • Complete the second design on TinkerCad and print if time allows.
  • Use the 3D printer as a component of an iExplore.
  • Create a tutorial video to teach other learners in the habitat how to use TinkerCad.

Summer

Summer

Sunshine shines across the window
Happiness has started
Flowers show pretty colours
That is Summer

I did this because I really love summer. Summer is a time to play outside and get some outing (Thats what my mum tells me to do). I like summer because it dose not rain that much in summer. Thats why I love summer and thats why I wrote a poem about Summer.

Rahi, Willie, Henry & Kevin's Collaborative PE Learning Story

Learner: Kevin, Henry, Rahi & Willie     Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 4.9.15
Learning Area: Physical Education
Learning Observed
The Year 6 learners were grouped to complete Collaborative learning tasks in PE. They had to be able to flip the gymnastics mat without stepping off of it. Kevin, Willie, Henry & Rahi initially had 7 people in their group, which made the challenge even more challenging! With a little help, they were able to figure out that if three people stepped to the side, it would be possible to complete the task. It was very entertaining watching them work it out. All four boys were working together and having a great time all at once. Out of all the Year 6 and Year 4 learners, these boys were the only ones to figure out the trick to this challenge! Great collaborative thinking!
Evidence of learning

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Collaboration was key to this activity and all four boys were able to show this skill. It was good to see them communicate with each other, but they might need to remember that calm and clear conversation is the best way to be successful (Participate and Contribute). All four boys showed curiosity when the task was introduced and they were very excited to give it a go. They remained engaged with it until they were finished.
As they were the only group to complete this challenge, Rahi, Henry, Willie and Kevin all showed they were capable of problem solving and finding a solution (Thinking).
Next Learning Steps
  • Solve the challenge with the 7 original team members.
  • Teach this activity to friends and family using a rug/mat or similar.

Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is the best strategy game in android history. It is the best MMO strategy game in all of it's kind. The game was released for iOS  platforms on August 2, 2012. It is a game about building defences to protect your base, training troops to attack others and chatting with online players. I have Clash of Clans and my friends do to like Shaun (Ronaldinho), Ved (Dark Dragon), Rohullah (Shaun) and others. My name on it is DarkWizard246. You can make clans or you can join clans. I have made a clan. It is called R GANG. Clash of Clans is for free and you can download it from the App Store and Play Store. I like Clash of Clans because it's the best game i've ever played. Clash of Clans is fun. I am a Town Hall 6 and soon you will be too.

Rahi & Rohullah - Author's Purpose Learning Story

Learner: Rahi & Rohullah     Learning Coach: T.Dillner            Date: 3.9.15
Learning Area: Literacy - Author’s Purpose
Learning Observed
Rahi and Rohullah attended a literacy workshop which was aimed at one of the Learning Progressions that each learner has on their Learning Pathway. We were looking specifically at how an author might use features on the cover and spine, in the blurb and in the text. The learners had to work together to analyse a text and identify why the author included these features and what they told the viewer about the text.
Rahi and Rohullah worked as a group on a variety of novels, connecting how the author may have used features that were the same or different on each text. They showed an increased capability in this when talking together about how the cover image, title, blurb and first page gave an idea of the theme and the author’s purpose. As they collaborated, each of the boys were able to extend their own knowledge by building on it with the ideas of the other group members.

Next Learning Steps
  • Finish a Best Fit Novel and analyse the Author’s Purpose after reading the entire book.
  • Record this analysis either in writing, video or audio.
  • Upload this as evidence in their Literacy Learning Pathways.
